Sandy soaks rob trial

Hurricane Sandy may have blown away the bank-robbery case against a Gambino-connected ex-con.

Brooklyn federal prosecutors revealed yesterday that evidence against Gary Fama left behind in the getaway car was destroyed in storage during the storm.

Assistant US Attorney Tiana Demas said the lost evidence includes DNA samples off a cellphone, a wallet and other objects that authorities believe belonged to the robber.

Prosecutors had planned to use the evidence during Fama’s trial, which begins Monday in Brooklyn federal court.

Defense attorney Elizabeth Macedonio said she’s weighing her options, and may use the new development to attack the feds’ case.

Fama, an ex-con with a string of prior arrests, is charged with joining Gambino associate Jack Mannino in the Dec. 29, 2011, robbery of a Capitol One Bank branch on New Utrecht Avenue in Brooklyn.

The FBI says the robbers brandished a weapon, and one vaulted the counter to fill a sack with several thousand dollars.

Mannino has flipped to become a government witness, and will testify against Fama, sources said.
