Jets report card

OFFENSE

The Jets made sure Mark Sanchez didn’t beat them. They limited the times he threw downfield, opting instead for safe passes and a heavy dose of running. Sanchez (12-of-19, 111 yards, 0 TD, 1 fumble) made a nice throw when the Jets needed it late to Jeff Cumberland. Running backs Bilal Powell (19 rushes, 78 yards, 1 TD) and Shonn Greene (20 rushes, 77 yards) took over the game in the second half.

C

DEFENSE

Another week against an inept offense and another big game from the Jets defense. The Jaguars were 2-for-16 on third down, one week after holding the Cardinals to 0-for-15. The Jets gave up a late score and made the fans sweat out the final drive. The Jets had two interceptions and sacked Chad Henne three times. DL Muhammad Wilkerson had three quarterback hits and seemed to be in the backfield all day. Two fourth-down conversions by the Jaguars knocks the defense down one notch.

A-

SPECIAL TEAMS

No problems or big plays this week. Punter Robert Malone had a good day (7 punts, 326 yards with a long of 59). The Jets did a good job in coverage and Jeremy Kerley set up a field goal with a nice punt return.

B

COACHING

The decision to keep Tim Tebow active over Greg McElroy is a questionable one by Rex Ryan. You have to credit Ryan and Mike Pettine for the way the defense is playing, even if it is against poor offenses. They’ve had very few letdowns. Tony Sparano made the right move in the second half leaning on the run and not letting Sanchez beat them with a bad pass.
