RG3 not ruled out for Sunday’s game

Robert Griffin III has a mild sprain of a ligament in the right knee and hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Browns, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said yesterday.

Shanahan said the injury is a Grade 1 sprain of the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) on the outside of the knee, caused when the rookie quarterback was hit at the end of a scramble late in regulation in the Redskins’ 31-28 overtime win over the Ravens.

Shanahan says Griffin has mild swelling and is receiving treatment.

EAGLES: Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy passed concussion tests and could return to practice once they’ve been cleared by an independent neurologist.

Vick has missed the last four games and McCoy the last three. Rookies Nick Foles and Bryce Brown have filled in at quarterback and running back, respectively.

Tight end Brent Celek sustained a concussion Sunday and won’t play against Cincinnati Thursday.

SAINTS: Former commissioner Paul Tagliabue will rule today on the latest round of player appeals in the NFL’s bounty probe, and any potential punishment will be delayed by a week, a source said.

The delay is designed to give a federal judge in New Orleans the opportunity to rule on pending motions to throw out the suspensions and remove Tagliabue as the appointed arbitrator for the player appeals to the league.

The NFL’s decision to delay potential sanctions for four current or former Saints also means linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive end Will Smith may play Sunday against Tampa Bay.

RAVENS: Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was fired yesterday and replaced by quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell.

JAGUARS: Coach Mike Mularkey was released from a Jacksonville hospital one day after his team’s 17-10 loss to the Jets. Mularkey, who said he felt ill, is expected back to work today.

COWBOYS: X-rays showed wide receiver Dez Bryant broke his left index fingers in Sunday’s win at Cincinnati and might miss the rest of the season if he needs surgery.

BEARS: QB Jay Cutler said he expects to play Sunday against the Packers despite injuring his neck in Sunday’s loss to the Vikings.

BILLS: Running back Fred Jackson will miss the rest of the season with a sprained ligament in his right knee.

TITANS: Tight end Jared Cook has a torn right rotator cuff and coach Mike Munchak said Cook will be placed on injured reserve for the final three games.

DOLPHINS: Receiver Armon Binns was awarded to Miami off waivers from Cincinnati. An undrafted free agent in 2011, he had 18 catches for 210 yards and one touchdown with the Bengals this season.

CARDINALS: Quarterback Brian Hoyer was claimed off waivers from the Steelers. He takes the roster spot of center Rich Ohrnberger, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
