Bus-time displays

The city hopes to provide the same type of electronic arrival information at bus stops that the MTA now delivers in subway stations, officials said yesterday.

“We’re working [on] a project to bring real-time arrival information to bus stops around the city,” said Transportation Department spokesman Nick Mosquera.

Lawmakers are clamoring for the digital displays, which are already in place in Albany, Syracuse and Washington.

A pilot project displaying bus-arrival times along 34th Street ended when the vendor operating the system failed to win a city contract.

City Councilman Brad Lander (D-Brooklyn) estimated the cost of installing the system at $5,000 per bus shelter, or $16.5 million for all 3,300.
