Banker sues over sacking

A former Citibank executive has filed a lawsuit claiming he was unfairly fired after he blew the whistle on a rogue employee who embezzled nearly $23 million.

Peter Orlandi says he noticed financial irregularities involving a junior executive and reported them to superiors — only later to be blamed for lax oversight of the worker.

Orlandi claims in papers filed in Brooklyn federal court that he had alerted the bank to problems involving Gary Foster, a legally blind executive who later admitted to embezzling millions.

Foster was sentenced over the summer to eight years in prison after indulging in a massive spending spree to acquire luxury cars, hire a chauffeur, and buy $16 million in real-estate holdings.

A Citibank spokesman did not return calls for comment.
