Adam Lambert’s “American Idol” journey may not be over yet.

The mascara-loving runner-up from Season 8 is reportedly on a short list of names being considered for a new judges’ table next season.

Producers “have been talking about Adam for over a month,” E! News said on Monday.

“He personifies the show and will be a popular choice right from the start,” the online news arm of the channel quoted a source as saying.

“He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments. He has a human touch, and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on.

“He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him.”

According to E!, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Fergie and Nicki Minaj are also in consideration.

In a UK radio interview late yesterday, Lambert did not deny he had been contacted about the job and said he would “love to help.”

“If — and I say ‘if’ with a capital I-F — they were to approach me, and if they were to say, you know, ‘We want you to be a judge on the show,’ I would love that!” he said.

Plagued by sagging ratings and increased competition, network brass have vowed to give the aging talent show — once TV’s biggest draw — a much-needed makeover for 2013.

“Our challenge for next year is to put some fresh energy in,” News Corp. COO Chase Carey told Wall Street analysts in May.

A week later, Fox programming chief Kevin Reilly confirmed the show will undergo “some creative tweaking” — but declined to elaborate on what exactly that entailed.

At the moment, it appears that only host Ryan Seacrest — who, coincidentally, is the anchor for E! News — may be returning. He recently signed a 2-year extension rumored to be worth $30 million.

Jennifer Lopez was non-committal about her future during a recent appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

“I don’t know if I can go for a third year,” she said. “I miss doing other things. It really does lock you down.”

According to E! sources, Steven Tyler’s status is “up in the air” for next season and longtime judge Randy Jackson may be quietly nudged out because “he’s part of the old ‘Idol.’ They want to keep the soul of the show but have a new look, and, for that reason, he may well not be part of the new line up.”

“I would jump at the chance,” Lambert told the radio interviewer. “I think it would be fun.

“I’ve been a fan of the show since it’s been on television,” he added. “I owe my career to ‘American Idol.’

“If it wasn’t for ‘American Idol’ . . . I don’t think my life would have went the way it went.

“I think it would be really exciting sitting at a judging panel trying to help people reach their dreams.”

A Fox spokesperson declined comment yesterday.
