Maybe shamed Congressman Anthony Weiner should stick to washing diapers and let his glamourous wife run for office.
A day after the serial sexter-turned-househusband declared himself “a very, very different person” in a People interview meant to put him back in the political spotlight, his wife, Huma Abedin, wound up there instead.
Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, raked in support from a raft of admirers — including top GOPers John Boehner, Lindsey Graham, Ed Rollins and John McCain — in the wake of nasty claims by Michele Bachmann and four other Republicans that Abedin is a mole for the Muslim Brotherhood, plotting to infiltrate the US government.
“She has a sterling character, and I think accusations like this being thrown around are pretty dangerous,” House Speaker Boehner said.
A Facebook page, “I stand with Huma,” that sprung up this week had 2,500 members last night.
McCain said, “[Abedin] represents what is best about America: the daughter of immigrants who has risen to the highest levels of our government on the basis of her substantial personal merit and her abiding commitment to the American ideals.”
Even Weiner realized he’d been eclipsed by his wife. “She’s huge news today,” he told The Post.
