Ex-hospital worker brought back to Queens to face charges stemming from 2005 kidnapping

A former hospital worker who was on the run for several years — for allegedly groping a 9-year-old girl and trying to lure her and her friends into his car — was returned to New York last night to face the disturbing charges.

Peter Belegrinos, 30, was remanded by Queens Supreme Court Justice Gregory Lasak today for 2005 charges of attempted kidnapping, sexual abuse, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Belegrinos, whose face was disguised with shoulder-length wavy black hair, a full beard and glasses, was found in the Netherlands in February 2011 — six years after he jumped bail. He refused to waive extradition and was brought back by US Marshalls Thursday night.

The Astoria resident, allegedly approached three children — ages 9 and 12 — in broad daylight inside Astoria Park and asked them to play a “kissing game” in his car.

Although the children — one boy and two girls — ran away from the former Elmhurst Hospital psych technician, he chased after them. Belegrinos allegedly caught up the youngest girl, punched in the head and sexually assaulted her, said Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.

The alleged sicko was caught shortly after the attack after a pedestrian saw that the children were in trouble and called the police.

“I was in the park and had a problem with a little girl there,” said Belegrinos at his original arraignment on August 8, 2005 where Queens Criminal Court Judge Deborah Stevens Modica was heavily criticized by local lawmakers for issuing a “low” bail of $50,000.

The bail jumper was ordered to return to court on August 13, where his attorney may file a motion for bail.

Orders of protection were issued for the victims.
