As the horror in Aurora, Colo., unfolded early this morning, terrified patrons trapped in the theater where a gunman opened fire told their stories on Twitter.
Police say 12 people were killed and 59 were wounded when 24-year-old James Holmes allegedly cut them down in cold blood, blasting away with an assault rife, shotgun and a handgun.
Holmes, who allegedly wore body armor and tossed tear gas into the theater before carrying out his killing spree, was arrested at the scene, and his nearby apartment had been booby-trapped, police said. Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates says investigators are confident the gunman acted alone.
