Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is ready for her closeup.
Hudson, the former “American Idol” favorite who snared an Academy Award for “Dreamgirls,” was here in Manhattan this past week, where she lit up Gramercy Park shooting some of her scenes for NBC’s “Smash,” on which she’ll guest-star next season.
Hudson, who’ll join fellow “Idol” alum and “Smash” star Katharine McPhee, is slated to play a Tony-winning Broadway star in the first two episodes of the NBC drama.
It’s a role that’s tailor-made for Hudson, who’s also won several Grammys and a Golden Globe Award.
“Smash,” which co-stars Debra Messing, Megan Hilty and Anjelica Huston, is scheduled to return for its second season early next year.
