Righting Bachmann’s wrong

The Issue: Michele Bachmann’s allegations that Huma Abedin is a mole for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Rep. Michele Bachmann makes fellow right-wing ranters Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin appear sane and professorial (“GOP to Huma’s Defense,” July 20).

Even GOP House Speaker John Boehner stated that such talk is “dangerous.”

Such unsubstantiated, inflammatory inanity is downright frightening, but what’s most unsettling is that Bachmann was once a presidential candidate.

Bachmann seems to be willing to do anything to discredit the Obama administration and garner political support, even if it means being deceitful and spreading lies, half-truths and exaggerations.

Even Sen. John McCain has soundly and publicly condemned her claims.

I was glad to see McCain defend Huma Abedin, and I hope other GOP lawmakers follow his lead.

Bachmann sounds a lot like Joseph McCarthy, and those old enough will remember the shame he brought on the Congress. Unless she backs down quickly, Bachmann runs the risk of suffering the same fate as McCarthy.
