GW carmageddon ‘fluke’

The traffic holiday is over for New Jersey drivers.

The George Washington Bridge was gridlock-free for the morning rush hour yesterday, despite predictions of nightmare traffic due to a major construction project on the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.

But traffic experts say the smooth sailing was just a fluke, because summer Mondays are notoriously slow due to workers taking vacations, according to Bob Glantzberg of the traffic-information clearinghouse TRANSCOM.

The bridge-construction project is projected to back up traffic on I-95 five miles into New Jersey.
