Con Ed labor heat got to Quinn

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn toughened her stance against Con Edison after labor leaders pressured her, several sources told The Post.

Quinn sent a letter on July 2 that called upon Con Ed management to end its lockout and also asked the union to agree to a “reasonable-walkout notice provision.”

On July 11 — after criticism from representatives of the Central Labor Council — Quinn wrote a harsh letter to Con Ed President Kevin Burke saying, “Your actions do not have my support.”

Quinn insisted she did not cave in to pressure but reevaluated the stagnant negotiations.

One labor source said, “She was leaning with management/pro-Con Ed right up until she got an earful from labor. [She] tried to play both sides until she was called out.”
