NY man killed when SUV, motorcycle collide in NJ

WANTAGE, N.J. — A New York man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving and a sport utility vehicle collided on a highway in northwestern New Jersey.

State police say 47-year-old David Melendez of Wallkill was southbound on Route 23 in Wantage when the collision occurred around 9:30 a.m. today.

The SUV driver, identified only as a 33-year-old New York man, was northbound on the highway in Sussex County and was turning left into a business when the accident occurred. Melendez, who was thrown from his motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
