NYPD makes a rail effort

SAFER: Police say patrols have cleaned up the 7 train.

The NYPD has been flooding crime-ridden subway lines with uniformed cops, police brass revealed yesterday.

The patrols, which began earlier this year, focus on weekend and late-night rides in Queens and The Bronx because authorities noticed an increase in crime during those times, NYPD Transit Chief Joseph Fox said.

Subway conductors also announce that the cops are on board, hoping to deter potential lawbreakers.

“One police officer is deployed on every train in The Bronx from 12 to 6 a.m.,” Fox said.

The program was so successful, it was expanded to high-crime lines in Queens.

Since the deployment began, there have been no major felonies on the A and 7 trains in Queens, nor on the 5 and the D in The Bronx, Fox said.

The 2, 4 and 6 trains in The Bronx have had only six felonies while officers have been on patrol, he said.
