Warner Bros. set to make ‘substantial’ donation

Warner Bros., the studio behind “The Dark Knight Rises,” plans to make a donation to charities aiding the victims of the Aurora, Colo., shooting, according to a new report.

The studio has been in contact with the office of Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper to determine the best course of action.

Warner Bros. now intends to contribute to a fund identified by the governor on the website givingfirst.org, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The money will be distributed across several charities that will support victims of the July 20 shooting rampage that left 12 dead and 58 wounded.

The studio has elected not to release the amount of the donation, but sources said it is “substantial.”

Warner Bros. CEO Barry Meyer sent a companywide email yesterday evening informing employees of the donation and explaining how they can donate personally.

The studio has reacted swiftly in the wake of this tragic event, quickly releasing a statement saying that Warner Bros. and “the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time.”

Warner Bros. then canceled a planned Paris premiere as well as other press events and declined to release box office figures for “The Dark Knight Rises” over the weekend out of respect for the families of the victims.
