The Black Stallion, 1979

Monday, 8 a.m., TCM

This perfect family film centers on a shy boy (Kelly Reno, right) and his family who are traveling on a ship where a wild stallion is stabled. When the ship tragically sinks, the boy and the stallion swim to a deserted island. Horse and boy bond, but when they are rescued, life changes. The boy refuses to give up on his friend and finds a trainer to make him the fastest horse in the world. With Mickey Rooney and Teri Garr.

Forrest Gump, 1994

Tuesday, 8 p.m., Lifetime

Six Oscars, including Best Picture, Actor and Director went to this charming film about a slow-witted man (Tom Hanks, left) who is of course wise in other ways. In fact his simplistic philosophy and kindness win over everyone he meets, and he does everything from create a hugely successful shrimp-boat fleet and invent things that change the world through four decades. With Sally Field and Gary Sinise.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona, 2008

Saturday, 5:30 p.m., Lifetime

Not Woody Allen’s best film but one that won Penelope Cruz a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for yet another turn as a hot and fiery Latina. Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson (below) are friends summering in Spain who fall for the same Spanish painter, (Javier Bardem). He’s as hot and fiery as his ex-wife (Cruz), who is still in the er, picture. Passions of all sorts boil over into the streets.
