‘Bom’ scare at JFK Airport

If only spotting a real bomb were this easy.

Hundreds of passengers yesterday were evacuated from JFK Airport’s Terminal 4 at 1:43 a.m. after one of them spotted a suspicious package with the words “Bom to USA” scrawled on it.

The discovery forced 300 international travelers to wait for an hour on the tarmac on a hot summer night while officials investigated the possible threat.

Sources said the problem was cleared up when investigators found the canvas bag’s owner, who had just arrived on a flight from Switzerland.

He explained that he had started his trip in Bombay (now known as Mumbai) — and he showed that the bag only contained his clothes and some prescription medicines.

A Customs spokesman said all threats must be taken seriously.
