‘Elevator fiend’ is arrested

Manhattan cops have arrested the heartless brute who allegedly mugged an elderly woman and stole her heirloom wedding ring in her elevator, authorities said.

Freddie Keitt, 33, was picked up Tuesday night.

“The person we were looking for in this case was seen looking suspicious by Stuy Town security. They detained him and cops arrested him,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

The homeless ex-con was linked to three other elevator robberies, and took part in lineups at the Manhattan Robbery Squad yesterday, police said.

“He made statements implicating himself in all four of those robberies,” Kelly added.

Keitt is suspected of robbing a 58-year-old woman at gunpoint in Far Rockaway on Dec. 4, police said.

Last Saturday, he allegedly mugged Yvonne Sherwell-Demakopoulos, 85, of her purse and wedding ring in the Meatpacking District and also robbed a 28-year-old woman in the elevator of an apartment building in the East Village, cops said. On Sunday, he allegedly targeted a 22-year-old woman in a Gramercy Park building.

Keitt was charged with robbery in three of the four cases, cops said.
