McMillan granted release from Fordham

Guard Devon McMillan has been granted his release from Fordham University, The Post has confirmed.

McMillan, who has appeared in three games this season, will be allowed to seek a transfer from the university immediately. McMillan is believed to want to play somewhere next semester.

“We understand and support the decision of Devon McMillan and his family and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Fordham head coach Tom Pecora said.

After undergoing shoulder surgery this past summer, McMillan played just three games for the Rams and struggled coming off the bench. McMillan averaged 2.7 points and less than one assist and rebounds, playing an average of 30 minutes per game.

A source familiar with the situation told The Post that the split was an amicable one and that McMillan’s playing time was the main reason the sophomore point guard sought a release.

Although McMillan had been recovering from shoulder surgery, finding playing time would have been difficult considering the guard-heavy Rams have a rotation that already featured junior Branden Frazier, sophomore Bryan Smith as well as true freshmen Jermaine Myers and Mandell Thomas and redshirt freshman Jeff Short.

McMillan, a 5’10 guard from Brooklyn who played his high school ball at Lincoln, appeared in all but one of the Rams games last year, starting 23 of them. McMillan finished his freshman season with Fordham as the team’s fourth-leading scorer averaging 7.4 points per game and finished second in assists with 81.
