A storm over scalping

The Issue: Scalpers who are selling tickets to the “12-12-12” concert to benefit victims of Superstorm Sandy.

Why is it an outrage if someone is scalping tickets for the Sandy relief concert (“$uperscalp Sandy Outrage,” Dec. 7)?

As long as the scalper bought the tickets at the same price everybody else paid, the concert backers have the same money.

If the scalper can’t find buyers, the venue already has its money, and the only difference is some empty seats.

What makes concert tickets different from any other item sold in the city, where the merchant buys stock, sells it at some markup and is stuck with it if it is not sold?Steve Becker

When the organizers have sold all the tickets for charity at face value, subsequent resales are not shameless, unless one believes that capitalism is just wrong in the first place. Ed Buscemi

Something has always been wrong with getting tickets in this city. I spent the entire morning trying to get tickets for my wife and myself.

Why wasn’t there a special ticket sale for Sandy victims who have a FEMA number? I live in Sheepshead Bay, and we have six family homes partially or totally destroyed here, and hundreds affected.

Why weren’t we allowed to get tickets early? We work on these homes seven days a week and need a break.
