Seahawks coach: Braylon hurt before we waived him

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll did not give encouraging news on new Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards.

Carroll’s Seahawks waived Edwards on Monday and the Jets claimed him off waivers on Tuesday. Edwards had a hamstring injury that led to Seattle moving on.

At his press conference yesterday, Carroll said they figured Edwards would not be back during the regular season.

“He’s going to be right at the cusp of getting back from what we understand with his hammy,” Carroll said. “So, he’ll be a good player for them. Hopefully he can get back and get well.”

Edwards had an unproductive season in Seattle, catching eight passes for 74 yards and one touchdown in 10 games. He has not caught a pass since Oct. 14.

“We thought he had a three-week injury or so,” Carroll said. “It would be a while for him to get back and we weren’t sure if he would make it back.”

The Seahawks waived-injured Edwards last week. They put him on injured reserve after he was not claimed. Seattle then waived him with an injury designation. The Jets were the only team to put a claim in for him, according to a source.
