Keller unlikely to play for Jets against Bills

Jets tight end Dustin Keller hopes to be able to practice today and play Sunday against the Bills, but it does not look good.

Keller has not played since spraining his left ankle on Dec. 2 against the Cardinals. Keller has a second-degree sprain, but it is not a high ankle sprain. Between this ankle injury and an earlier hamstring injury, Keller has played in just eight games this year.

“It’s been frustrating, especially with the injuries and then just things all together not going our way,” Keller said. “It’s been very frustrating from that standpoint.”

The 28-year-old is also in the final year of his contract, making this season an important one for him. He is not sure if he will be back with the Jets or somewhere else next season.

“There’s no telling what next year is going to be,” Keller said. “I don’t know if I’m going to be here or be somewhere else, so with that said I definitely would like to be able to play in this last game if it’s my last game as a Jet or if it’s just the last game until next year’s first game as a Jet.”

Keller has not practiced since hurting the ankle, but hopes to be able to do some live drills today.

* DL Muhammad Wilkerson (concussion) was limited in practice. Coach Rex Ryan sounds optimistic Wilkerson will play Sunday.

“I think Mo is going to play,” Ryan said. “He just has one more test to pass and then we’ll see how it goes.”

* Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine refused to discuss his contract situation. It came to light last week that Pettine turned down a contract extension earlier this season. He said he will deal with his contract after the season.

Pettine did say he wants to remain with the Jets.

“It’s a great organization,” Pettine said. “I’ve enjoyed my time here, it’s a great group of players. [I’ve been] treated very well. So again, that’s something that will take care of itself when the season’s over.”

* The Jets-Bills game will be blacked out in the Buffalo area because 13,000 tickets remain unsold. …WR Braylon Edwards (knee/hamstring) was limited in practice. He said he will play Sunday. … The Jets placed DB Aaron Berry on season-ending injured reserve. The team has two open roster spots. … Safety Yeremiah Bell won the Eskenazi media good guy award, as voted on by reporters who regularly cover the team.
