Ed Fountaine’s Stakes Spot Plays

Mr. Prospector

Gulfstream Park, fifth race. Grade 3. Purse: $100,000. 6 furlongs, 3-year-olds and up. Post: 2:37 p.m.

LOWDOWN

Action Andy has been on a roll of late, winning the Maryland Million Sprint at Laurel by 2 3/4 lengths, the Frank DeFrancis Memorial by a nose, and the Pelican at Tampa Bay by 2 1/4 in 1:09 flat, earning 100-plus Beyer numbers in his last two starts. He can win from on or off the pace, and today he attracts the services of Hall-of-Fame rider John Velazquez.

EDDIE LOGAN

Santa Anita, sixth race. Purse: $75,000. 1 mile, turf, 2-year-olds. Post 6:05 p.m.

LOWDOWN:
Rising Legend shipped to the U.S. after winning two races in England and closed a ton to finish second, beaten just a half-length, in the Grade 3 Generous going a mile on the Hollypark turf. If the son of Rock of Gibraltar can avoid the “Euro-bounce” and come close to duplicating that effort, this race is his.

TV: HRTV, TVG, NYRA Channel 71.

DAYTONA

Santa Anita, eighth race. Grade 3. Purse: $100,000. 6 1/2 furlongs, downhill turf, 3-year-olds and up. Post: 7:07 p.m.

LOWDOWN:
Capital Account has been one of the year’s top sprinters all year, with his only bad finish coming when he ran a no-account 12th in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint on dirt at Santa Anita. Bob Baffert’s 5-year-old has shown an affinity for synthetic surfaces, so he should take to the turf in his first start on turf.
