Jags fumble ball on MJD’s injury

Jacksonville’s worst season in franchise history may include a botched injury.

Star running back Maurice Jones-Drew had surgery on his left foot yesterday and will be out at least until May. The operation came 10 weeks after Jones-Drew hurt his foot at Oakland on Oct. 21 and created plenty of questions about why the team didn’t opt for surgery months ago.

“We had hoped it would — as others have — heal without surgery, and it didn’t,” coach Mike Mularkey said Friday.

Mularkey said the two-month delay means little because players can’t start offseason work with coaches until April 15.

RAIDERS: The team is ready to get a long look at Terrelle Pryor to see if he can be their quarterback of the future.

Pryor got the nod over Matt Leinhart to start tomorrow’s season finale in San Diego in place of the injured Carson Palmer. It will be Prior’s first NFL start.

BROWNS: Shoulder injuries to starter Brandon Weeden and No. 2 QB Colt McCoy will give Thad Lewis a chance to show what he can do at quarterback tomorrow against Pittsburgh.

STEELERS: An injury to his left hip will cause Mike Wallace to miss a regular-season game for the first time since he was taken in the third round in the 2009 draft.

BEARS: Running back Matt Forte expects to start tomorrow against the Lions despite an ankle injury suffered last week.

Forte went through a full practice and was listed probable for the game, which the Bears will need to win if they have any shot at making the playoffs.

PACKERS: Wide receiver Jordy Nelson is expected to rerturn tomorrow after missing the last three weeks with a hamstring injury. Fellow receiver Randall Cobb remains questionable.

BRONCOS: Kick returner Trindon Holliday is doubtful for the regular-season finale against Kansas City because of a sprained ankle.
