Jumbo-$ize hit on ASPCA

WASHINGTON — The ASPCA will pay Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus $9.3 million to settle its part of a lawsuit stemming from claims the circus abused its elephants.

The society was one of several animal-rights groups that in 2000 sued circus owner Feld Entertainment.

Courts found the activists had paid an ex-Ringling employee to bring the suit and that he didn’t have the right to sue the circus.
