This week’s couple: Rocking out

THIS DATE had a rocky start — but that wasn’t a bad thing. We sent Ian, 23, and Arlen, 25, to a climbing class at Brooklyn Boulders, the Gowanus indoor rock climbing facility. While strapped in, the pair learned the ropes and a bit about each other. So, did they reach a high point or were they unable to get things off the ground?—

He said:

When Arlen arrived at Brooklyn Boulders, I gave her a hand shake, but I really wanted a hug. She was tall, slim and curvy.

Rock climbing was fun, but during the instruction there wasn’t much time for us to talk. There were points when the teacher gave us private time, though, and Arlen and I had good energy. We were laughing, smiling and touching each other. Things were so good, we even went to eat after the class.

Arlen said she had plans later on, but I tried to convince her to stay longer. I told her I was willing to cancel the plans I had, but no dice.

We exchanged numbers, and I would like to see her again.

She said:

Ian was surprisingly attractive. He had a warm smile and nice eyes. I wasn’t nervous about the date, but I was nervous about exposing my fear of heights!

Ian asked a lot of questions. Almost too many. I called him out on it, since I learn about people gradually and he was just diving in. I had to tell him to chill out. He admitted it was a result of his impatience.

The venue was awesome. It was an off-peak time so it wasn’t too busy. Our instructor was chill and they had hip-hop playing, which I liked.

We got dinner after climbing, but I had to cut it short, unfortunately. We have each other’s numbers and might hang out soon. I was pleased at how well this worked out. Ian could potentially be a romantic interest.
