The great unknown going into Sunday’s Giants-Eagles game is Michael Vick, who has not taken a snap in a game since Nov. 11 and admitted he didn’t think he would play again this season. Then, Nick Foles broke his right hand and Vick was summoned out of the bullpen.
“Maybe a little rust but who knows?’’ Vick said. “I haven’t taken a live game snap in eight weeks. I’m pretty sure the game hasn’t changed too much and I pretty much know what to expect going in. I’m very excited about it and confident. I’m ready to put in work.”
Before suffering a concussion against the Cowboys, an injury that paved the way for the Eagles to audition Foles for next season, Vick was struggling. In nine games, he had turned the ball over 14 times on nine interceptions and five lost fumbles. It is generally acknowledged Vick and the Eagles will part ways after this season.
“I want to be a starter in this league,’’ Vick said. “I can’t see myself not being a starter right now. I just feel like I have too much talent and too much to offer. That’s [just not the] conversation right now. I think it should be directed towards winning this game this week.”
Strange but true: Vick is 9-0 in regular-season road games against the Giants, Redskins and Cowboys, the Eagles’ three rivals in the NFC East.
* The Giants will host approximately 200 students and the same number of parents and faculty members from Sandy Hook Elementary School, site of the horrific Dec. 14 shooting massacre that killed 20 first-graders and six adults.
Nine buses will arrive from Newtown, Conn., this morning. The students and adults will participate in pregame ceremonies and also stay to watch the game.
* Prince Amukamara and Jayron Hosley are both doubtful to play, meaning seldom-used Justin Tryon figures to be the emergency starter at right cornerback opposite struggling Corey Webster. Tryon has played in every game, almost exclusively on special teams. … What defense? The Giants are ranked 30th on defense and have allowed a ridiculous number of big plays: 67 plays of 20 or more yards and 16 plays of 40 or more yards.
* Lawrence Tynes was selected as first alternate kicker for the NFC Pro Bowl squad behind Vikings rookie Blair Walsh. Tynes leads the NFL with 33 field goals and was on a torrid pace before missing field-goal attempts in each of the last three games.
“It was consistent earlier in the year and then we kind of ran into a patch in the lawn for a few games,’’ special teams coordinator Tom Quinn said. “You have to make those kicks. Those are all makeable kicks, so I’m sure he’d want those back.”
* Rookie RB David Wilson scored on a 14-yard run in the first quarter last week in Baltimore, but didn’t get the ball much after the touchdown, as the Giants were in catch-up mode.
“Certain things happened in the game that he was going to struggle with,’’ offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said. “That’s what took place; same influences that determine it all the time.’’
