3 shot South Jersey officers on mend

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Two of the three police officers shot and wounded by a suspect inside a South Jersey police station have been released from the hospital.

But authorities say the third officer, who underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to the abdomen, remained hospitalized in stable condition yesterday.

The suspect, 39-year-old Eddie Jones III, of Willingboro, was killed early Friday during the struggle inside the station in Gloucester Township.

Officials say Jones overpowered and disarmed an officer, then fired at her.

Two officers in a nearby room came to their colleague’s aid and returned fire on Jones.
