Tragic track gal dead in ‘drunken’ subway stagger

A young woman staggered onto the subway tracks beneath Penn Station and was fatally struck by a 2 train early yesterday.

NYPD investigators could not identify the woman, but found a keychain tag that traced her back to New Jersey.

Witnesses said she appeared intoxicated, although it was unclear whether she wandered onto the tracks by accident or meant to kill herself.

“When the train came she was lying in the track bed and it was too late for the conductor to do anything,” a law-enforcement source said.

The woman was hit near the south end of the platform by a northbound 2 train running on the local track at about 5:20 a.m., an MTA spokeswoman said.

A witness saw the woman — believed to be in her 20s — stumbling before walking down the service stairs at the end of the platform and into the mouth of the tunnel, cops said.

She then either fell or laid down on the tracks.

Police don’t suspect criminality.

“It’s sad. We don’t even know who she was, but she was someone’s daughter,” said Bilkis Akdar, 55, a newsstand clerk who watched emergency workers carry the woman’s body from the station.
