Reid to interview with Cardinals: report

Andy Reid may be heading to Arizona to coach the Cardinals. Or he may not.

Reports yesterday said the former Eagles head coach, who was fired on New Year’s Eve, is the leading candidate to take the same position with the Cardinals. Although a subsequent report on ESPN said Reid is not the Cardinals’ leading candidate, CBS reported he would interview with Arizona tomorrow for the head-coaching job, vacant since Ken Whisenhunt was fired on Monday.

A Phoenix TV station first reported the Cardinals’ interest in Reid, who was 130-93-1 in 14 seasons in Philadelphia with nine playoff appearances, but went 4-12 this season and had not been to the postseason since 2010.

The Cardinals interviewed their defensive coordinator, Ray Horton, for the head coaching job, and team president Michael Bidwill plans to fly to Denver over the weekend to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.

COACHING:
Doug Marrone, who guided Syracuse to an eight-win season including a victory in the Pinstripe Bowl, may have coached his last game at his alma matter.

Marrone has posted a 25-25 record in four seasons with the Orange, and has gotten Syracuse football back on the map. NFL teams have taken notice, as he is being considered for several NFL head coaching jobs, including the Bills, Browns and Eagles.

The Browns, who finished 5-11, and the Bills (6-10) were already interested in Marrone, but yesterday reports surfaced that the Eagles have also jumped into the mix, according to Philly.com.

Marrone hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2008 when he was the offensive coordinator for Sean Payton with the Saints. He was also the Jets’ offensive line coach from 2002-2005.

49ERS: San Francisco signed kicker Billy Cundiff to compete with struggling veteran David Akers.

The team had yet to make a formal announcement, but coach Jim Harbaugh said a day earlier that the NFC West champion Niners (11-4-1), off this week as the NFC’s No. 2 seed, planned to try out kickers because of Akers’ prolonged funk.

BENGALS: Running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis didn’t suit up for practice yesterday, though he ran while the rest of his teammates practiced for Saturday’s playoff game at Houston. Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said Green-Ellis has “a little twinge” and looks as if he will be “fine.”

PACKERS:
Charles Woodson has been cleared to play again, and Green Bay is counting on the defensive back to provide a lift in Saturday night’s playoff game against the Vikings.

Woodson deferred to team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie and gave his broken collarbone as much time to heal as possible, sitting out Sunday’s regular-season finale at Minnesota. He was injured on Oct. 21 and has missed nine consecutive games, but now that the Packers are in win-or-go-home mode, Woodson is back.
