Chuck pushes $torm bill

Sen. Charles Schumer wants New York to get its Hurricane Sandy money, fiscal cliff be damned.

The Democrat demanded yesterday that House Republicans take up a Senate bill to provide billions in rebuilding money for states slammed by the storm.

He insisted that Congress, mired in gridlock over how to avert the fiscal cliff, make time to pass the $60 billion aid package before New Year’s Day.

“This does a lot of good,” Schumer said of the aid bill. “But it will do no good if the House walks away from its responsibility.

“For the House to walk away and not allow a vote would be unconscionable. We cannot have that happen,” he added.

The bill passed the Senate Friday night with considerable GOP support.

“Anyone who says this is a partisan bill is wrong,” Schumer said.
