Deal stops $our milk

WASHINGTON — At least they avoided the dairy cliff.

House and Senate agriculture committee leaders reached an agreement yesterday to extend the farm bill for another year, preventing milk prices from rising to $7 per gallon.

The farm bill was set to expire tomorrow. Without an agreement, a 1949 farm law would have kicked in, requiring the Agriculture Department to begin buying dairy products at double today’s prices.
