Obama attributes Benghazi disaster to diplomatic security ‘sloppiness’

WASHINGTON — President Obama yesterday attributed the September terrorist attack that killed the US Libyan ambassador and three other Americans to “sloppiness” in diplomatic security.

As a result, the administration will adopt recommendations recently issued by an independent panel.

“We’re going to solve this. We’re not going to be defensive about it. We’re not going to pretend that this was not a problem,” Obama said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “This was a huge problem.”

Without elaborating, Obama said there are “very good leads” about the perpetrators.

He also called criticism of UN Ambassador Susan Rice, who initially blamed the attack on an anti-Islam video, “politically motivated,” adding, “She . . . had the least to do with anything that happened in Benghazi.”
