Jets’ Tebow experiment likely at an end

ORCHARD PARK — Tim Tebow wants Tebow Time to be as a starting quarterback next season.

Following the end of the Jets’ season yesterday and the almost certain end of Tebow’s Jets career, the backup/Wildcat/celebrity quarterback said yesterday he wants the opportunity to compete for a starting quarterback job — whether it’s with the Jets or not.

Tebow is all but history with the Jets. The organization figures to try to find a trade partner for the 25-year-old, and if that can’t happen, they almost certainly will release him.

“I’m not sure,” Tebow said when asked if he expects and wants to be with the Jets next season. “I’ll take a few days to just let everything sink in from the season and go from there.”

The acquisition of Tebow, acquired from the Broncos for a fourth-round pick was a complete waste. He barely played all season in the Wildcat capacity and, after Sanchez’s struggles, was passed over multiple times to be the team’s starting quarterback.

Tebow played just 74 offensive snaps over the 15 games he was active for, and threw eight passes (completing six for 39 yards). He ran 32 times for 102 yards and didn’t score a touchdown.

VOTE: WHO SHOULD THE JETS BRING BACK IN 2013?

“Obviously there were its ups and downs,” Tebow said of his season.

Tebow didn’t directly say whether he thought he was treated well by the Jets.

“I’m not going to worry about whether I was treated fair,” he said.

In yesterday’s 28-9 loss to the Bills, Tebow received just one snap as a Wildcat quarterback, and it was typically uneventful; he handed off to Joe McKnight.

It was another day of scattered Tebow chants, as Sanchez struggled, but no change was made.

“I thought [Mark] gave us the best chance to win,” Ryan said. “If I thought Tebow would have helped us win the game playing quarterback or defensive tackle, I would have played him.”

Tebow gave a “No sir” when asked if he thought his inaction this season set him back as a player.

Wherever Tebow goes next — and barring a miracle it won’t be with the Jets — drama sure will follow.

“Tim’s under contract,” Ryan said. “So we’ll see what happens.”
