Jets report card

OFFENSE

If this were Tony Sparano’s final game as offensive coordinator, it was a fitting end to this dismal season. The Jets moved the ball at times and then had drives blow up on them. They failed to get to the end zone, settling for three field goals. Mark Sanchez (17-of-35, 205 yards, one INT, one fumble) had another poor day with two turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown. The running game was working early and then the Jets moved away from it. D

DEFENSE

The Bills put up 334 yards on Rex Ryan’s crew, a stunning number considering the Bills entered the game with the No. 19 offense in the NFL. They were victimized by another big play, a 66-yard pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick to C.J. Spiller. They forced a turnover at the Bills’ 15, but the offense failed to score. The defense kept them in the game until the fourth quarter. C

SPECIAL TEAMS

A blocked field goal was the final indignity retiring special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff had to endure in this season. Nick Folk made three field goals, one on a kick that was tipped, and had the block. Jeremy Kerley had three fair catches, setting a new NFL single-season record with 36. D

COACHING

This 6-10 season has been a total mess and that falls on Ryan. The head coach did not find a way to get his team to play in the final three weeks of the season, losing all three for the second straight year. All three coordinators may be new in 2013. Sparano will likely be fired. Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine is expected to leave. And Westhoff is retiring. Ryan is expected to return. He has a lot of soul searching to do to figure out how to turn this around. F
