Boeheim knots Knight on win list

Michael Carter-Williams scored a career-high 18 points and added 13 assists and No. 7 Syracuse beat visiting Central Connecticut State 96-62 yesterday, giving Orange coach Jim Boeheim his 902nd career win.

Boeheim tied Bob Knight for second all-time in victories among Division I men’s coaches. Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski leads with 939.

Syracuse (12-1) completed its nonconference schedule with its 32nd straight home win, the longest active streak in the nation. Boeheim’s first chance to pass Knight comes tomorrow night at home against Rutgers.

Cincinnati 70, Pitt 61

In Pittsburgh, Cashmere Wright scored 18 points as the 14th-ranked Bearcats (13-1) bulled past the 24th-ranked Panthers (12-2) in a Big East opener.

Iona 93, St. Bonaventure 74

Sean Armand scored 27 points, connecting seven times from 3-point range, to lead Iona (7-6). Demitrius Conger had 26 points for the Bonnies (7-5).

Indiana 69, Iowa 65

Cody Zeller had 15 of his 19 points in the second half and fifth-ranked Indiana (13-1) opened Big Ten play by holding off host Iowa (11-3).

Minnesota 76, Michigan State 63

In Minneapolis, Andre Hollins had 22 points as No. 9 Minnesota (13-1) beat No. 18 Michigan State (11-3) in their Big Ten opener.
