NBA: Bobcats end skid

Kemba Walker had 18 points and eight rebounds as the Bobcats ended an 18-game losing streak with a 91-81 win over the Bulls yesterday in Chicago.

LeBron James had 36 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds to help the visiting Heat slip past the Magic 112-110 in overtime.

MLB: Royals sign Endy

The Royals signed former Mets outfielder Endy Chavez to a minor league contract and invited him to big league spring training. Chavez, 34, is a career .269 hitter with 26 homers, 229 RBIs and 100 stolen bases in 11 seasons.

Former AL MVP Miguel Tejada said he has reached a deal with the Royals. The 38-year-old infielder last played in the majors in 2011 with the Giants.




Etc.: Wozniacki not engaged

Caroline Wozniacki denied she and golfer Rory McIlroy are engaged though she was photographed wearing a new ring on her left hand when she arrived in Australia last week. Wozniacki, who said the ring was a Christmas gift, was defeated in the first round of the Brisbane International, losing to Ksenia Pervak in three sets.

Washington hockey star Alex Ovechkin and tennis’ Maria Kirilenko announced on Twitter they are engaged. No wedding day was set.

Boise State has backed out on a commitment to join the Big East and will remain in the Mountain West.
