Hammar’s Hell in Mexico

The Issue: How the administration handled former Marine Jon Hammar’s ordeal in a Mexican prison.

***

Former Marine Jon Hammar languished in a Mexican jail run by drug cartels while President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton seemingly did nothing to secure his release (“Semper Fi, Unless It’s Inconvenient,” Bill O’Reilly, PostOpinion, Dec. 28).

It was through the efforts of Hammar’s family, Bill O’Reilly and Sen. Bill Nelson, as well as Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, that this brave veteran was finally released.

Obama and Clinton have no use for our military, especially for the Marines and Navy SEALs, unless it is to use them as props. The Obama administration knows that the military is generally conservative and has no use for his socialist policies that hurt our men and women in uniform as well as the public.

I hope that the parents of veterans remember who helped release Hammar.Alice Lemos

Semper Fi is short for “Semper Fidelis,” or “Always Faithful.”

Obama and Clinton are faithful only to their political careers, not to the military. As far as they are concerned, Hammar could have rotted in a Mexican jail if not for O’Reilly.

Mexico is a corrupt and dysfunctional country. It should not be judged by the beauty of its landscape, but by the character of its government.

Apparently, Mexicans agree — and leave in droves to come to America, both legally and illegally. Elio Valenti
