NYers 2nd in political gift$

WASHINGTON — New Yorkers gave nearly $378 million to candidates, parties and political-action committees in the 2012 election, the most of any state except California, a new report found.

Most of that campaign cash came from Manhattan and Brooklyn, but residents of hurricane-ravaged Staten Island also chipped in $1.4 million for political campaigns last year, according to campaign-finance figures compiled by CQ Moneyline.

This week, Rep. Peter King (R-LI) urged New York donors to cut off his GOP colleagues after they refused to vote on an aid package for Hurricane Sandy.
