Reid now big Chief

Andy Reid pulled up to Arrowhead Stadium in a black SUV yesterday, stepped out of it wearing a dark suit and red tie, and walked briskly toward the doors of the Kansas City Chiefs’ home.

Just a few hours later, Reid officially became the coach of the Chiefs.

The longtime Eagles coach signed a five-year deal, two people familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss the terms of the contract.

The Chiefs have scheduled an introductory press conference for Monday.

Reid’s agreement was finalized shortly after the Chiefs announced they had parted ways with general manager Scott Pioli after four tumultuous seasons in Kansas City.

It’s expected that Reid will pursue longtime Packers personnel man John Dorsey or former Browns GM Tom Heckert — or perhaps both of them — to work with him in the front office.

BROWNS: A person familiar with the negotiations says Cleveland is close to a deal with Oregon’s Chip Kelly to become their next coach.

The Browns interviewed Kelly yesterday and the Ducks coach was supposed to meet with Philadelphia. Nevertheless, a person familiar with the interviews says the Eagles are “heading in another direction” because Kelly is nearing a deal with Cleveland.

EAGLES: Philadelphia will interview Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley for their coaching vacancy.

The Eagles already have interviewed Penn State’s Bill O’Brien and Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong. O’Brien is remaining at Penn State.

Team officials will meet with Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy tomorrow in Denver.

BILLS: Like the Eagles, Buffalo is taking its coaching search to Denver to interview McCoy today after spending much of the past week meeting candidates in Arizona.

PANTHERS: Owner J
erry Richardson has scheduled a meeting with Ron Rivera this morning to discuss the coach’s future with the team, said a person familiar with the situation.

It’s uncertain if Richardson will inform Rivera whether he will remain Carolina’s coach at the meeting or gather input from Rivera and then make a determination at a later date.

JAGUARS: Owner Shad Khan is allowing the assistants to look for other jobs while he continues interviewing GM candidates.

Khan fired GM Gene Smith on Monday and has been crisscrossing the country interviewing potential replacements.

COLTS: Left guard Joe Reitz will not play in tomorrow’s playoff game at Baltimore because of a concussion.

REDSKINS: The team has restored cornerback Cedric Griffin to the 53-man roster in time after his four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

TEXANS: Houston has placed linebacker Tim Dobbins on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

SEAHAWKS: Cornerback Brandon Browner is expected to start for Seattle Seahawks tomorrow despite just returning this week from his four-game suspension.
