Foot back in mouth

* An important question during these exciting NFL playoffs is: What tattoos does Jets coach Rex Ryan’s wife have on her toes?

Patriots games

* It doesn’t matter who the Jets’ new general manager is, or who the coach is. As long as Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are with the Patriots, the best the Jets can ever hope for is second place in their division and a road playoff game.

Blocking for Johnny

* I guess it’s natural when the Heisman Trophy winner plays in a bowl game, the focus would be on him a disproportionate amount of time (either Oklahoma’s defense is dreadful or Johnny Manziel is the real deal). However, to me, it was Texas A&M’s offensive line that made Johnny Football look great. It seemed to me he stood in the pocket for a 20, 30 or 40 count nearly every passing down, surveying the field. Any quarterback at any level of competition would look good with that kind of time.

Hall of shame

* Here’s my vote: Shut down the Baseball Hall of Fame. Let’s not perpetually worry about cheaters getting in, or keeping clean players out. Both options are poor. Really, what is the Hall of Fame worth moving forward? A yearly embarrassment of clueless sports reporters, not scientists, trying to guess who took performance-enhancing drugs? If these writers kept out Jerry Rice, I truly fear what they will do when trying to figure out Mike Piazza or Jeff Bagwell.

Amazin’ mistake

* The Mets say they have a plan for the outfield in 2013, but all I see are no-names like Andrew Brown, Collin Cowgill and the return of Mike Baxter and Lucas Duda. Let’s say the Mets decide to grab Scott Hairston also. They still would not have a major league outfield. If the Mets think this plan is going to work, they should just tell fans, “We’ll compete in 2014, but this season is a wash.”

Hockey pucks

* Last year’s playoff run by the Rangers renewed my interest in hockey. But after this lockout, it seems like a million years ago. Small media markets will never learn, without a competitive team in the Big Apple, you have no league.

Ice job, kids!

* The success of the men and women playing junior hockey on Team USA is a victory for all Americans. Congratulations!

Super Bowl Saturday

* In looking over the NFL playoff schedule, I noticed the wild-card and divisional playoff rounds have games on Saturday nights. So why is it that the NFL stubbornly keeps the Super Bowl slated for a Sunday evening in early February instead of bumping it back 24 hours to Saturday night so that everyone can enjoy the game without having to work the next day? Why not put the most-watched TV event of the year on Saturday night — the least watched TV night of the week? Why is this so obvious solution so hard for the NFL to digest?
