Eight new arrests in Bronx drug-gang crackdown

Authorities say an investigation into a violent Bronx drug trafficking crew has resulted in eight new arrests.

The charges announced Wednesday include conspiracy to distribute crack and heroin. Some defendants are charged with firearms offenses.

The case now has a total of 10 defendants.

Officials say the crew’s ringleader and another member were accused in a July indictment with torturing a kidnapping victim with an iron.

Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara calls the gang, based on Wyatt Street, “a bloody blight” on the community.

The FBI and NYPD are part of the investigation.
