Britney bye-bye to beau

In a move almost as well choreographed as the dance routine to her hit song “Toxic,” Britney Spears last night called off her engagement to agent-turned-fiancé Jason Trawick — only hours after quitting as a judge on “X-Factor.”

“Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement,” the 31-year-old pop star said in a statement.

“I’ll always adore him, and we will remain great friends.”

The duo began dating in 2009, and Trawick popped the question in December 2011 on his 40th birthday.

Trawick played a big role in getting the singer’s life back on track following her infamous head-shaving, bat-swinging meltdown.

In April, he became co-conservator of her personal affairs along with Britney’s father, Jamie Spears.

Trawick was removed as co-conservator in a Los Angeles courthouse yesterday, making Britney’s dad her lone conservator.

A source close to the couple told The Post that the breakup was likely Trawick’s decision.

“While [Trawick] liked being in the spotlight with Britney at first, he has been very unhappy for some time, and has been very vocal about being miserable in the relationship,” the source said.

“Britney is very clingy and needy; she’s a lot of work. She needed him with her at all times, and needed to be managed all the time,” the source added.

“He quit his job for her, and Britney became his full-time job. He always talked about starting his own management company, but it wasn’t possible while managing her.”

Trawick, who’s from Long Island, was in the Big Apple yesterday visiting family and friends.

“As this chapter ends for us, a new one begins,” Trawick said in a statement. “I love and cherish her and her boys and we’ll be close forever.”

Spears has two sons, Preston, 7, and Jayden, 6, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. They divorced in 2006.

Britney has experienced her fair share of drama the past week.

She walked away from her $15 million judging job on “The X Factor” amid rumors she’s in talks for a Las Vegas gig. And she recently changed agencies, moving from Trawick’s William Morris Agency to Creative Artists Agency.

“I’ve made the very difficult decision not to return for another season,” Spears said regarding her decision to leave “X-Factor,” adding, “It’s time for me to get back in the studio.”
