Jets search getting offensive

The Jets’ search for their third offensive coordinator in three years has begun.

According to a source, former Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, Bengals assistant Hue Jackson and Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg are all expected to interview for the job left empty when the Jets fired Tony Sparano.

Cameron and Jackson both worked with Jets coach Rex Ryan in Baltimore. Cameron was fired by the Ravens last month just weeks before the playoffs began. Jackson was fired by the Raiders last year after one season as a head coach. He worked as a Bengals assistant this season working with the secondary. He has a background as a quarterbacks coach, something the Jets need. Mornhinweg has been the Eagles offensive coordinator since 2006.

The Jets coaching staff is undergoing a nearly complete overhaul, but it still does not include the addition of another Ryan brother.

Linebackers coach Bob Sutton was the latest to depart, accepting the defensive coordinator job with the Chiefs yesterday. There was speculation Rex Ryan’s twin brother, Rob, would take his place. But a source said last night the Rams were set to hire Rob Ryan as their defensive coordinator. The Cowboys fired Rob Ryan earlier this week.

Sutton will join Andy Reid in Kansas City. He was the Jets defensive coordinator under Eric Mangini and then stayed on as linebackers coach when Rex Ryan was hired. He served under four head coaches — Ryan, Mangini, Herm Edwards and Al Groh.

The Jets now have openings at offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, linebackers coach, outside linebackers coach and defensive backs coach (once Dennis Thurman is promoted to defensive coordinator, as expected).

The Jets also are searching for a new general manager. They interviewed Seahawks executive John Idzik and two unidentified candidates yesterday. The search will continue into next week.
