WATCH: Leggings for men

Some men are braving the cold with a weapon women have had for years — leggings, or in this case, “meggings.”

The male tights have been around for years. But the term meggings may be recent terminology for the snuggly-fitted items for men’s legs seen on fashion runways and, now, on the streets.

Upon first hearing about meggings, Jake Dobkin, a “stunt journalist” and publisher at Gothamist.com, bravely tried wearing the tights for a day in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

“It’s kind of tight and kind of [gets] hot downstairs, if you know what I’m saying,” Dobkin quipped.

In Manhattan, fashion store owner Jimmy Webb adds a little flair to the risky look. Technically, Webb wears pants, since his pair has pockets. But his pants are like a second layer of skin.

“This is what we’ve been doing for 37 years,” describes Webb. “It’s not that serious.”

Are meggings right for the year 2013? Men will have to decide.

“You don’t rock a pair of pants,” explained Webb. “You feel a pair of pants.”
