ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo’s first pick for the state’s top court ran into unexpected trouble yesterday as Senate Republicans questioned her credentials.
The Senate Judiciary Committee tabled a vote on whether to recommend CUNY law Professor Jenny Rivera for confirmation to the Court of Appeals.
The unusual move was seen as a blow to Cuomo and Senate co-leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx), who had called his fellow Bronx resident “one of our city’s best and brightest legal minds.”
“I think they are taking a shot at the governor. They are not going to stand with him on everything,” a Capitol insider said of Republican senators, who this year have aligned themselves in an unprecedented ruling coalition with the Klein-led Independent Democratic Conference.
