WATCH: The perils of driving the ‘world’s smallest car’

Jeremy Clarkson really outdid himself on a recent episode of “Top Gear” when he unveiled what he claimed to be the world’s smallest car.

Apparently designed by the host himself, the tiny car, called the P45, is basically the base of a four-wheeler ATV but with the headlights, turn signals, mirrors and license plates necessary to make the vehicle street legal in the United Kingdom.

With a buckle-closure “body,” and a helmet “windshield” the mini-car was built as an homage to the Peel P50 which was featured on a previous episode of the world famous car show.

“Yes, look at this, look at this, this is very brilliant,” Clarkson says as he pulls onto a main road before hitting a pothole and banging his head into the front of his helmet. “Oh my God!”

Despite having troubles on the open road, the P45 eventually shows its true value when it gets into town and Clarkson is able to weave through traffic like a motorcyclist.

“Ladies and gentlemen — this is incredible, you are witnessing the birth of the future,” he exclaims before hitting another pothole and banging his head into the front of his helmet again.

Further highlighting the P45’s merits, Clarkson also shows off how he can fill the car’s gas tank without ever leaving the vehicle.

Top Gear is watched by 350 million people per week in the more than 170 countries and is currently in its 19th season. The show was recently profiled on “60 Minutes” and can be seen on BBC America (Sunday, 9:00 p.m.).
