Ramon to rehab

Jockey Ramon Dominguez has been transferred to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, NY, after spending more than a week at New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, and has begun inpatient therapy for a skull fracture suffered in a spill at Aqueduct Racetrack on Jan. 18.

“Ramon continues to do well and is improving every day,” said his wife, Sharon Dominguez. “He was transferred to Burke on Wednesday, completed initial evaluations on Thursday, and started a brain injury rehabilitation program on Friday. As Ramon takes the next steps in his treatment, he and I would like to thank everyone again for the continued support and prayers. Although his injury will take time to heal, Ramon is on the road to a full recovery.”

Dominguez was unseated from his mount, Convocation, after it appeared that he clipped heels with the eventual winner, Sovereign Default turning for home. Convocation, who stumbled and fell, was not injured and was walked off the track. The spill occurred the day before Dominguez was to accept his third Eclipse Award in Hallandale Beach, Fla, after leading the nation in earnings with $25.6 million in 2012.
