OPEN AND SHUT: LONG ISLAND CLUB PRO MARK MIELKE IS APPRECIATIVE -BUT HUMBLED – AT PINEHURST

ABSTRACT:

PINEHURST – Mark Mielke was a long way from Oyster Bay this week.

It was exactly the moment that Mielke, the head pro at the Mill River Club who qualified for this week’s U.S. Open, checked into his locker at Pinehurst earlier this week that he realized he wasn’t in Long Island anymore.

To his left was Masters and British Open winner Mark O’Meara’s locker.

Mielke hopes to handle it next time by making the cut.

“It’s definitely a goal of mine to play in Sunday of a major,” he said. “Hopefully one day I’ll be out there on Sunday playing.”
